PTA Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity in the classroom and at home.

All entries are due November 2nd. We will have a table setup in the front entry of DCE, the last full week of October to collect submissions. Students of all grades and abilities may participate and explore the arts based on the 2017-2018 theme: Within Reach

Students may choose one or all of the available arts categories:

Film Production
Dance Choreography
Literature
Music Composition
Photography
 Visual Arts

The arts—and the National PTA Reflections program—support student success and serve as a valuable tool for building strong partnerships in your school community. Celebrate arts learning in your school community with Reflections.

A Reflections Awards Ceremony will be held at Deer Creek Elementary January 2018 to celebrate the program and each child will receive an award for participating.

Students may enter any or all of the six art categories. Multiple entries within a single arts category is permitted. Each entry must be the original work of one student and created specifically for the Reflections program based on the national theme. Each entry must also conform to the guidelines developed by the National PTA. Each entry that qualifies for district advancement must live with a family member that is a member of the PTA.

Visit our 2015-2016 Reflections Gallery to see examples of entries that were awarded at the state level of judging last year.

Reflections is an Idea and Art contest

Here is what you need to know so you can get to creating! We recognize you are an essential part of this program, so please help your child(ren) to:

1. REFLECT (as the program is so named) about the theme. Have a guided discussion about the theme (see tips below). This year's theme is "Within Reach."

2. Enable creation--provide the supplies and talk with them about their needs for the project.

3. Review and comply with the rules for your child(ren)'s chosen medium, here

4. Prepare your child(ren)'s piece for submission, including a Student Entry Form in a sheet protector. The entry form may be printed here

5. Submit their completed works to the Reflections boxes near the DCE front office by Thursday, November 2, 2017.

Thank you for helping your child(ren) express themselves and experience the joy of creating something in the Fine Arts.

Eligibility and participation information may be found here or you may contact Chaliese Jones (chaliese@gmail.com, 512-810-8115) directly.

How to have a guided conversation with your child(ren):

1. Ask your child(ren): What do you think "Within Reach" means? What experiences have you had with reaching? What more do you want to explore about reaching? How can "reaching" help you or the world be better? Etc.

2. Listen to your child(ren). Make note of their answers and ask follow-up questions.

3. Ask, "How could you show this?" through any of the artistic categories (above).

4. Let your child explore their ideas. Help them gather supplies and support their creativity.
